weaponized emotional unawareness
was reading a new york times story on chinese reactions to the “working conditions in Foxconn” story, and while most are exactly what you’d expect, either saying “this is horrible and we shouldn’t allow it”, or “stop being so whiny, it’s just capitalism”, there was one that struck as me very genuinely honest in how we really think:
I hope China can some day soon have dozens of its own companies like Apple, who (only) work on high-end research and development and send manufacturing lines to Africa. —Anonymous
